Although doctors are socialized to ignore this, the practice of medicine and the subjects
deemed worthy of funding and further study are heavily influenced by cultural beliefs
and factors that may have little to do with objective science. In fact, the practice
of medicine is carried out within a cultural context that is as political as it is
scientific. Nowhere is this more evident than in women's health.
